"The greatest sign of success for a teacher...is to be able to say, 'The Children are now working as if I did not exist.'"
– Maria Montessori
"Education is not
the filling of a pail,
but the lightning
of a fire."
– W.B. Yeats
Founded over 100 years ago by Maria Montessori, the Montessori method is a self-derived, independent, instructional education. This process allows an individual to utilize their own areas of interest to learn. Therefore, makes the acquisition of knowledge and skill more efficient, effective, and appealing. There are several areas of focus for each Children's House. They are: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Geography, Art, Music, Mathematics, Science, and Free Play. Our curriculum also includes Spanish and after school Piano Lessons (added fee for piano lessons).
Through the use of practical household items; children learn to build their attention-span and develop independency. Sensorial lessons provide the children with a true sensory experience by allowing exploration with use of hands on materials. The Art curriculum strategically shows children art techniques to help them create their own masterpieces. A variety of art elements are introduced in addition to the study of various artists. Music appreciation is a central focus of our music curriculum. Younger students learn to properly use their voice, create music with real instruments, learn rhythm techniques, and also perform a musical program for parents. Older students explore many music genres, learn note reading, share musical performances, and also learn to play more advanced instruments.
Children's House: Each core area provides a hands-on learning style through the manipulation of Montessori materials. Lessons are geared towards the individual child's academic level. Click on the following link for a more in depth explanation of the Montessori Method: Montessori Theory
Elementary Class: Our elementary class encompasses both the Montessori Method as well as a rigorous advanced curriculum. The environment allows for a hands on introduction of new concepts and reinforces these concepts through use of several curriculums, they include: A beka for Language, Composition, Geography, and Science, Hand Writing Without Tears, and Saxon Math.
